This letter is intended as an introduction to Lauren Amber Serna’s background and experience in the instruction of Reiki and to offer her services to facilities interested in including Reiki and or IET Integrated Energy Therapy training to their current curriculums-- either as an ongoing course, an affiliate program, or as a referral. Attached are her bio and resume, as well as a fact sheet about Reiki and its benefits, a table of contents from the manuals used in instruction, and a description of how the Reiki course is taught. From Ayurvedic medicine in India to Native American shamans, healers have been around for thousands of years. By the beginning of the 20th Century, the practice of Reiki had been ushered into existence by Buddhist monk, Dr. Mikao Usui, who developed it as a method for using energy, or life force energy, to heal. Since then, the benefits of Reiki have been many: it relieves pain, promotes relaxation, reinforces the immune system, improves circulation, speeds surgery recovery, slows the aging process, and much, much more. Born with the gift of healing, Lauren Serna has been a Reiki practitioner since 1996, when she was trained in the Usui Shiki Ryoho method in London. Since then, she has helped hundreds of people around the world overcome illness, injury, and pain. In 2007, she became a Certified Reiki Master Teacher and in 2009, she became a Certified Karuna Reiki Master Teacher, enabling her to begin instructing others in the Reiki healing arts. She is also a member of the International Association of Reiki Professionals and is currently in the process of registering with the Board of Nurses and massage therapists for the ability to give CE’s. She holds liability insurance through IARP (International Association of Reiki Professionals) which includes coverage for teaching Reiki any where. Her rich background and body of knowledge complement other alternative practices— massage therapy, acupressure, acupuncture, Touch For Health, yoga, IET, and traditional methods as well. Reiki is gaining credibility with medical professionals. Reiki has been proven useful for massage therapists, psycho-therapists and in the nursing industry, and has a high interest rate amongst these groups. For instance, it’s offered at Cedars-Sinai in Southern California, and in Rockford, Illinois, Reiki is just one type of alternative service offered at the Swedish American Hospital and offered in many cancer treatment facilities across the country, such as the Dana Farber Cancer Center in Boston and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. As a matter of fact, the US Government’s National Institute of Health now provides information about Reiki on its National Center For Complementary And Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) webpage, including references to NCCAM-funded research, such as, “Whether Reiki is effective and safe for treating the symptoms of fibromyalgia” and “Whether Reiki can help reduce nerve pain and cardiovascular risk in people with type 2 diabetes”. According to NCCAM’s page, Reiki has been used to help people suffering from HIV/AIDS, chronic pain, anxiety and side effects from cancer treatment. http://nccam.nih.gov/health/reiki/ If your facility already incorporates Reiki training, it may be advisable to offer a very popular course, Integrated Energy Therapy (IET), which can be taught side by side with Reiki as they complement each other.
